My first Seoul travel (2)

Continued from

My first Seoul travel (1)

My second day in Seoul.
Today I did things apart from the rest of my group. I went out with my friend Pek. He(?) (Ed. note: I don't know if this is a male or female name; I'm guessing male. My apologies if I'm wrong.) used to be a regular at Hareruya, but now he lives in Seoul. He gave me a Surfing Yokozuna hat as a souvenir. (Saito note: I gave to he it^^)

The Surfing Yokozuna hat.
*The person in this picture is my friend Saeko. Just to clarify, this isn't Pek.

Pek thankfully took the time to come and pick me up at the hotel.
First, we went for lunch.

268274_112794838815695_100002555389883_100149_4600515_n.jpg

Octopus Bibimbap

I really liked the fact that Korean food automatically comes with lots of vegetable side-dishes in small bowls. The Bibimbap rice and mixture came out separately (Ed. note: In my experience, they usually come mixed together, so this is strange to me too, but I guess it's the "Official Korean Version").

From there, we took the train on a Magic (card game) related trip.
The train seats in Seoul are really hard. I asked Pek about it, and he said that a long time ago there was a fire on a train and since then they've used fire-retardant materials to make the seats. I looked it up

[link]Korean Subway Fire[/link] (Ed. note: This page is completely in Japanese. No, I'm not going to translate it.)

The fire was set by a 56-year-old man, 197 people died. Of course, if something like this happened, it's only natural they would make harder, more difficult to burn seats. I hope those who died are happier in the next world.

Anyway, back to my card pilgrimage. It's been about a year since we opened Hareruya at Takadababa (Ed. note: This word makes no sense to me, so I presume it's a place name). There must be a lot we can still learn from a foreign culture! On top of which, I might be able to buy some cool things! With that feeling, we went to see what we could find.

We went to this place in the basement of a building near a station a
bit outside of the city center:

270737_112794132149099_100002555389883_100145_212959_n.jpg

270737_112794142149098_100002555389883_100146_4939675_n.jpg

270737_112794155482430_100002555389883_100147_2389426_n.jpg

Huh? Pek, this is a card shop? Sure, they have Magic posters and sell packs, but this doesn't look much like a card shop to me.
It was a game space/bar/net cafe. What a surprise! In fact, I was looking for a way to integrate a bar with a card shop. I can really use this as a reference ^_^ They also had board games and manga, and the background music was a mixture of Western music and K-Pop! One of the songs was "Lucifer" by everyone's favourite SHINee (Ed. note: I've never heard this song; I might have to check it out =D). Of course, a shop run by me would have to have K-Pop.

270737_112794102149102_100002555389883_100143_7840878_n.jpg

Anyway, we grabbed a beer and started playing some Magic ^_^ This
place was great! Thanks Pek!

After that, we went to a shop in a Honde (Ed. note: What's a Honde? I
can't find that word in any dictionary...)
(Saito note:Honde is area, city name,)that's famous in the clubs.
It's managed by a company that imports board games and manages Magic in Korea. They were having a tournament, so their store was really busy. It seems there are no pure-card shops in Korea. I've been to many card shops in North America and Europe, and there are surely those which also sell board games and analog games. It seems pure card shops are certainly rare. I guess Japan is advanced in the field of trading card games.

267934_112793495482496_100002555389883_100139_1758001_n.jpg

I bought a book of my favourite Manga, "Bakuman", in Korean. Even though I can't actually read it, I can still read it!!! (Ed. note: lol. I presume by this that Saitou means that he can cross-reference from the Japanese version XD Been there, done that.). The series opening has been restored in Korean ^_^

267934_112793485482497_100002555389883_100138_7499435_n.jpg

For dinner, we had my deeply-yearned-for Takalbi (BBQ Chicken). We ate at a specialty shop that Pek recommended, and it was really good!!! If only Japanese Samgyopsal hit the spot as much as Takalbi >_< It's a bit spicy for the average Japanese taste, but still! ^_^

After dinner, as the last train approached, I said goodbye to Pek and went to a Music bar before going back to Honde to meet up with the rest of the group. It was called "Ho Bar". I was a bit excited after having seen more than 3 shops in the same city.

This place had speakers bigger than me, and played very loud music.
It was good that the DJ knew what he was doing. As expected from a city famous for its club scene.

I joined up with the rest of my group. We had planned to go to a club called M2 which is famous in Japan, but even though it was a weekday the line was too long, so we went to a club called Cocoon which I had heard about from a friend which, even though it was relatively new, was pretty popular. It seems well-liked among the Koreans who don't like standing in line.

268935_112249315536914_100002555389883_97712_2008890_n.jpg

To say it plainly, Cocoon was AWESOME!!! I DEFINITELY recommend it to anyone going to Seoul!!! Best club I've EVER been to!

The sound, the songs, the DJs, the shape of the box, the patrons, the lasers, everything was great!!! The sound was particularly great!
Wherever I went, my body was shaking from the sound ^_^ The equipment must have been really expensive! The patrons were also joining the mood. There were overwhelmingly more handsome Korean guys and cute girls than the previous day at NB! There was this really drunk 30-year-old who, bought 3 Banana Milks. As he was about to open the 2nd one, he threw up. Right in front of the DJ booth, all over the floor. It made me laugh lol (Ed. Note: This sentence gets the "Hardest to translate" award for this entry. I'm sure I did this one completely wrong...)

It was exciting to see that, even though it was a weekday, there were over 1000 people at the club! They didn't play much K-Pop, but I would recommend this place to anyone who likes Korea or has a good taste for clubs.

We stayed at Cocoon until they closed at around 6 am. From there, we went back to the hotel and I went to sleep. What a good day.

I'm excited that I got my fire for writing back!

I'll be back soon!

My first Seoul travel (1)

(Saito note: My friend free trancelated for his stady and for some peaples^^ it is also good for my English stady very much,Thank you Lyle Waldman!!!)

(1)(Link to Japanese)

From July 12-15, I went to Seoul, South Korea with my friends!

I think I'm going to put the memories of my first non-card-game-related here.

The idea for this trip started when I was drinking at my house after partying at a K-Pop event.

Friend: I heard about a travel package to go to Seoul. It's 4 days, 3 nights, hotel included, for 30,000 yen. Wanna go?

Haru (I presume this means Saitou-san): That's cheap! I'm in! When?

Friend: July 12-15.

Haru: Sure!

Friend: Sure, I'll reserve it now ^_^

So, in these 10 seconds, I made the decision to go to Seoul lol

When I sobered up the next morning, I realized I had made plans to go on a vacation with a gender ratio of 5 girls to 1 guy lol

That said, I've always wanted to go to Korea and I thought I should go sometime, but I was hesitant as to figuring out when I could go, so I didn't regret it. Thanks to the friend who invited me ^_^

That's the happily greedy me!
There were many goals and themes of the trip.
Truthfully, they were:

1) Deepen my friendship with the people I was with.

2) Try new things.

3) Party at Seoul's famous clubs.

4) Authentic Korean food proficiency (particularly Takalbi) (Ed. note: I don't know what Takalbi is, nor do I know what Saitou means by "proficiency" here)
(Saito note: Takalbi is Korean Spicy Chicken BBQ,)

5) Go on a pub crawl in Seoul.

6) Find out about Korean card shops.

7) Wander around the back streets.

8) Buy T-ara paraphenalia not easily available in Japan.

9) See Seoul's night view.

There were a lot of goals lol

I did this and that on July 12, finally departing from Narita airport.
Lately, when I've been going to Narita airport, I've been going by car, but this is the first time I've ever parked there.
"Happy Parking!" lol
It was great because it was cheap and accomodating to phones and airport kiss-and-ride. Happy!

When we got there (Ed note: I presume "there" in this case references Seoul, not Narita, but it's not 100% clear to me based on context), I took a cheap tour to the local Duty-Free store before checking into the standard-looking hotel. It appeared that the tour company and the duty-free have some sort of arrangement which made it cheaper ^_^

There was nothing for me to impulse-buy there, so I hung around the duty-free until it was time to meet my friends.

281877_112796175482228_100002555389883_100165_7454939_n.jpg

Yu-chan <3 (Ed note: English has no equivalent word to the Japanese suffix "chan") This was an advertisement to introduce Oriental God (Ed note: Yeah, this is as close as I can get to what he says, but not entirely correct) Yu-chan. She(?)'s my favourite, I'm so excited (Ed.
note: I'm actually not sure if this is a guy or girl XD Based on the vocabulary Saitou uses, I'm presuming girl)! This was taken in front of the duty-free.
(Saito note:it`s Yuchon,it`s man,He was Touhoushinki menber before, Yeah, looks like girl this picture, haha)

281877_112796162148896_100002555389883_100164_6804651_n.jpg

Neighbourhood police station. Kind of cute, isn't it? ^_^

281877_112796145482231_100002555389883_100163_4159604_n.jpg

Stylish building. I like edgy buildings like this.

281877_112796128815566_100002555389883_100162_6063048_n.jpg

Retro phone booth. Come to think of it, I don't think there are many phone booths left in Japan. I haven't seen many in Tokyo at least lol

Finally, we took the tour bus to the hotel. We got there around 6 pm.
It wasn't a bad hotel for the price. And breakfast was included.
We rested for a bit, then went out for dinner ^_^

281877_112796108815568_100002555389883_100161_7459910_n.jpg

Everyone's favourite Samgyopsal (Ed. note: I don't know what that is).
Mashisou! (Ed note: I presume that's a Korean word, although I've probably butchered the spelling. Sincere apologies to the Koreans in the audience.)
(Saito note:Samgyopsal is korean pork BBQ^^,Mashisou is delicious in English!)

285544_112795472148965_100002555389883_100159_1094834_n.jpg

We ate beef too! It was so cheap for the amount we got! Well, the Korean Won is cheap in the first place, so the price of food is cheap too! (Ed. note: This last sentence was probably the hardest to translate so far; I probably did it wrong)

After dinner, we took a walk before heading to the club.

268274_112794898815689_100002555389883_100153_2875324_n.jpg

Da-dum! Suddenly, in the middle of town, we came to this statue! I
love things like this. I wish Japanese towns had more of a playful spirit.

285544_112795408815638_100002555389883_100155_1912300_n.jpg

We discovered a cafe with this stylish exterior. It's important to have a device that causes people to stop when they arrive at your shop! This is huge, though, so there's no way I can bring it to my shop lol
From here, we had a beer and a Chamisul (Ed. note: I don't know what this is either; apparently a drink?), and went to the club!
(Saito note:Chamisul is Korean Sake^^)

268274_112794868815692_100002555389883_100151_8228274_n.jpg

Kannam Club NB (Ed note: I presume this is the name of the club). In Japan, it's famous because the company YG Entertainment, which also manages BIGBANG and 2NE1, manages this club. Even though it was Tuesday, there was an amazing crowd here. Probably over 700 people!!!
In the middle of the party, right in front of the DJ booth, a white guy who we were dancing with was injured by a Korean guy who was (without success) trying to pick up a girl and started to fight back, at which point I stopped him. For some reason I was the one to apologize lol. In the end, if the place becomes less happy, then everyone becomes less happy, which just makes me less happy lol
It was good happiness training lol
One of the girls I was with got hit on by the Koreans a lot, so we went looking for good looking guys, cute girls, and interesting people
^_^
For the first time in a while, I really felt the language barrier!!!
We were dancing and screaming with a lot of people, but we couldn't really talk to anyone. I can't speak Korean at all, and my English is limited, so it was difficult to speak over the roar in the club.
Furthermore, there were a lot of people aside from me who didn't understand English.
In the end, I only exchanged contact information with Japanese girls lol.

268274_112794858815693_100002555389883_100150_4061659_n.jpg

There's a lot of convenience stores in Seoul, and they're very convenient!
And so, I'm going to bed on my first day in Seoul.

I'll make another entry in a few days.
